Monday August 28, 2023
WOLVERHAMPTON secured their play-off place in style with a convincing 55-35 win over Sheffield.

A bumper bank holiday crowd witnessed a night of entertaining racing in front of the TV cameras as the Parrys International Wolves stormed to victory after a run of close contests in recent home outings.

They had to recover from an opening 5-1 to the visitors though - and they did so instantly as they sealed back-to-back maximums of their own to move four ahead after Heat Three.

Rory Schlein got the better of Tai Woffinden on his return to Monmore Green in the first shared race of the night in the fourth before Becker and Douglas combined for their second straight 5-1.

Steve Worrall rounded Woffinden to lead a 4-2 in Heat Six before Schlein made it two from two in the seventh.
Worrall also made it successive wins to front a 4-2 in the eighth before Becker and Douglas completed their hat-trick of maximums in Heat Nine to open up a 16 point gap.

A stunning Heat Ten saw Sheffield claim their first race win since the opener when Josh Pickering eventually came out on top of a thriller with Worrall and Sam Masters - and the visitors reduced the gap to 12 in Heat 11 when former Wolves riders Woffinden and Tobiasz Musielak combined for a 5-1.

Becker took Heat 12 before back-to-back 5-1s saw the hosts create the 20 point difference though.

And in-form Aussie Ryan Douglas rounded off a fine night, clinching a paid maximum in the final race of the night.

The Parrys International Wolves head to Peterborough on Thursday (August 31, 7.30) before hosting their final regular Sports Insure Premiership fixture of the season next Monday (September 4, 7.30) at Monmore.
