WOLVES CLOSE THE GAP

Monday May 29, 2023
WOLVERHAMPTON moved to within one point of league leaders Belle Vue after a successful Bank Holiday Monday against the reigning Champions.

The Parrys International Wolves claimed four of the five Sports Insure Premiership points on offer after a pulsating day of Speedway, which concluded with them claiming a 46-44 home win as the Club celebrated its 95th Anniversary.

Earlier in the day, the Wolves earned a 45-45 draw in Manchester - but were forced to settle for one point when they were beaten 5-4 in the Super Heat.

That drama and tension followed them back to the Black Country with another thrilling tussle between the two sides in front of a healthy crowd and live on TV.

They started brightly as they raced into a 13-5 lead with three races gone - and after Heat Six they were ten up.

That was the gap once again following Heat Ten before the visitors fought back to take it down to the wire.

Three advantages out of four for the Aces between Heats 11 and 14 took it down to a last heat decider - and that's where home skipper Sam Masters stepped up to the plate to keep Brady Kurtz and Dan Bewley at bay to seal victory on the night as well as the aggregate point.

The result puts the Parrys International Wolves onto 13 points, one behind Belle Vue - and the Monmore men also have a meeting in hand.

Next up it's a trip to Ipswich on (Thursday, June 1, 7.30) where the aggregate score stands at 49-41 in the Wolves' favour.

WOLVERHAMPTON 46: Steve Worrall 11, Sam Masters 10+1, Luke Becker 9+1, Ryan Douglas 5+1, Zach Cook 5, Rory Schlein 4, Leon Flint 2+1.
BELLE VUE 44: Brady Kurtz 14+1, Charles Wright 8, Dan Bewley 7+1, Tom Brennan 6+1, Paco Castagna 5+1, Jaimon Lidsey 4, Jake Mulford 0.
Wolverhampton win aggregate point 91-89.
