GRAND Prix star Jason Doyle was the winner of Sam Masters' Testimonial on Sunday.
The 2017 World Champion topped the regular scorechart, dropping just one point along the way, before beating Freddie Lindgren, Scott Nicholls and Jacob Thorssell in the Grand Final.
A big crowd turned out for the season opener at Monmore Green as Parrys International Wolves skipper Masters celebrated over a decade in British Speedway.
With a star-studded line-up assembled, many expected a tight tussle for the three automatic Grand Final places that were up for grabs.
Doyle top scored with 14, dropping his only point to former Wolves No.1 Freddie Lindgren in Heat Ten.
And that was the first of a hat-trick of race wins for the Swede who booked his place in the Grand Final by taking the chequered flag in the last qualifying heat.
The third automatic spot was claimed by former Wolves favourite Jacob Thorssell who, despite being on borrowed machinery, took very little time to settle back into familiar surroundings by producing a solid set of programmed rides.
The Semi-Final looked to be going the way of Wolves man Steve Worrall, but a slight error on the final bend allowed seven-times British Champion Scott Nicholls to come through and snatch a place in the final on the run to the line.
There was drama ahead of the Grand Final when Thorssell shed a chain on the start line - forcing him onto further borrowed machinery.
When the tapes did rise though, it was Doyle who reacted the quickest and charged to victory.
"With the field Sam pulled together for the meeting, it feels great to win," Doyle said.
"The track was amazing considering how much rain you've had around here the last few days so hats off to all the track staff for that."
Meanwhile, Masters was thrilled with how his Testimonial went.
"It was unreal," he said.
"I can't believe the turnout we had.
"None of the boys let me down at all and I appreciate everyone coming to be in my meeting, especially those who came after racing abroad.
"It was good to see Doyley win - he's been a good friend of mine for a long while.
"Hopefully the Wolves fans enjoyed it and everyone else who travelled; I did my best and I've got to thank my main sponsors and everyone involved behind-the-scenes.
"I owe them all a lot and couldn't have done it without them."
The Parrys International Wolves launch their Premiership campaign next Monday (April 3, 7.30) when King's Lynn visit Monmore Green.
