WOLVERHAMPTON bosses are counting down the days to the return of racing at Monmore Green.

Hopes have been raised for a full league season following Monday’s announcement of the government roadmap which stated turnstiles can click at sporting venues from May 17.

But Parrys International Wolves owner Chris Van Straaten has also urged fans to ‘keep doing the right thing’.

“This feels like the final lap in the race to get us all back together,” he said. “But we’re not there yet. To ensure we are racing on May 17 we need everyone to keep doing the right thing, so the roadmap targets can be met successfully.

“I was so lifted by the news because May 17 gives us the opportunity to get a full season in with 10 league meetings plus, of course, more should we reach the play-offs which is our aim!.

“Personally speaking I have had some very tough days mentally, particularly through January and February when it’s been dark, miserable and freezing cold, but I’m sure all our fans have felt the same way.

“Now we can look forward to spring and summer and things suddenly feel a lot better.

“We’ve all still got to stick to the rules and we’ll get there. All the riders are raring to go and I cannot wait for the green light to go on for Heat 1 of our opening meeting – I’m sure there will be a lot of emotional people at Monmore Green that night.

“Speedway creates friendships. People get to know each other and have been stood on the same part of terracing with the same people for many years in some cases. It will be like a reunion for so many people.”
