WOLVERHAMPTON racer Sam Masters has been relishing the prospect of doing battle with some of the sport’s finest in this year’s Premiership – if or when the season starts!

There was a massive buzz surrounding British Speedway’s top flight after seeing the return of top stars Nicki Pedersen and Jason Crump – who have six World Championship titles between them.

Add them to the likes of current Grand Prix racers Niels-Kristian Iversen and 2017 World Champion Jason Doyle and it’s not hard to understand why there has been such anticipation.

But with a chunk of top stars now in Poland it remains to be seen whether they will be in a position to travel back to race here if the green light is given.

Masters is the latest Parrys International Wolves racer to declare his intentions of developing into an out-and-out No.1 and believes the calibre of his potential counterparts if and when racing resumes could help him on his way.

“It’s good to have these guys back in the league and it’s going to be awesome to race against them again whenever that may be,” Masters said.

“People say that Wolves haven’t got that out and out No.1 but we’ve got guys, including myself, who can step up to the role and get the job done.

“I look around and see all these other No.1’s in the league and it’s a great year for me to try and take that next step.

“I’ve had times where I’ve been at No.1 for Wolves over the past few years and then either Jacob (Thorssell) or Rory (Schlein) have overtaken me in the averages.

“But now I want to do what I can to be recognised as a full No.1 myself and that will help the team of course as well.

“We know whoever goes out there in those big races towards the end have got what it takes to get the 5-1, the 4-2 or whatever result we need.

“Obviously away it’s a little bit harder but in my mind now I can beat anyone anywhere and if I can get some big wins for the team against these other No.1’s in the league this year then that’s only going to give me even more confidence and belief.”
