NEW Wolverhampton signing Nick Morris is safely through to the Australian Championship Final despite a third-ride exclusion in Wednesday’s qualifier.

Former Premiership title winner Morris, who joins the Parrys International Wolves from Swindon this year, will be up against his 2019 Monmore team-mate Sam Masters over the upcoming five-round series.

But he first had to negotiate a tricky qualifier at Gillman to join the seeded riders in the Final.

Morris finished second in his first two rides, which were won by Ryan Douglas and Justin Sedgmen respectively, but then found himself under pressure when he was disqualified from Heat 12 for touching the tapes.

However, he hit back with a win in Heat 16 and a second place behind Ben Cook in the final race saw him through on nine points.

Douglas won the meeting ahead of Jordan Stewart and Sedgmen, and they now join a Final line-up which includes the likes of Chris Holder, Max Fricke and reigning champion Rohan Tungate as well as Masters.

Morris said: “I’ve blown the cobwebs out now, it’s good to get through and now I’m looking forward to the first round of the title series, and hoping for a good one.”

The first round of the Final is back at Gillman on Thursday, and the other rounds take place at Mildura (Jan 5), Undera (Jan 7), Albury (Jan 9) and Kurri-Kurri (Jan 12).
